The project summary...

2020 will be the year of transforming the way electricity and gas is consumed by people. By the end of 2020 energy companies will need to install smart meters for their customers. For this project I had created a user interface (UI) for a smart meter.

Where did I begin?

As all projects, I begun by looking into the requirements given; slowly breaking them down into a checklist and tasks to complete. Comparing various smart meters in the market I had begun to create a wireframe for the layout of the UI using Axure. The design was kept as simple as possible; displaying the required information without overwhelming the users of the smart meter.

For the design of the UI I had used colours enhancing important information and messages to users. E.g. the colour red meaning usage of gas or electricity is high (red being linked with negativity). Using this allows there to be less word being displayed as most smart meters hold small interfaces.

With the colours, design covered, and layout covered I had begun developing the high fidelity UI. the colours were kept quite simple not only as a design factor but also to help users save cost on electricity.
